Join the Department of Justice Disability Reference Group – Expression of Interest
What is the Disability Reference Group?
It’s a group of people:
• from the community
• who work for the Department of Justice
The group helps us:
• Make our workplaces and services welcoming to everyone
• Make things easier for everyone to access and use
• Make sure everyone is treated fairly
What does the group do?
The group gives advice to help with:
• The Disability Action Plan
• The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Strategy 2023–2026
Who can join?
We want to hear from people in Tasmania who are:
• People with disability
• Carers, family members, or supporters of people with disability
• Advocates, organisations or community members who speak up for or support people with disability
• People with knowledge or experience about disability – even if it’s not from formal training
What do members need to do?
• Go to a 1.5 hour meeting every 4 months
• Read some short materials before each meeting
• Be part of the group for 12 months
• Give helpful advice and feedback to make things better for people with disability
What will the group talk about?
Topics may include:
• Fair hiring and job support
• Positive workplace culture (safe, respectful places to work)
• Clear communication about disability
• Giving feedback on new laws
• Better workplace adjustments and policies
• Making buildings, websites, and information easier to access
Remuneration
• Remuneration is available to community members who are participating in a personal capacity. This recognises the invaluable expertise, lived experience, and time committed to informing the Department’s work and shaping inclusive, community-informed policies and programs.
