🌪️ The Storm, the Panic, and the Drama Machine
So, did you survive the end of the world? If you believe the news and social media, Brisbane is gone, the Gold Coast has been washed away, and electricity won’t be back until next year. People raided supermarkets like a zombie apocalypse was coming.
But in reality? The wind blew, the rain fell, a few trees came down, and some areas got a little flooded. Power went out— but wow!— it was restored almost everywhere pretty quickly. The same people who were panic-buying yesterday are now posting coffee selfies and enjoying the cool weather.
Coastal areas got hit the hardest. Some streets flooded, some people lost power for a day or two, and others are still waiting for crews to clear fallen trees. But let’s be honest— we live in a country where nature likes to remind us who’s boss. A big storm now and then isn’t exactly shocking.
But the media and social networks don’t care about reality. Who’s going to click on a headline that says “Just a normal storm, nothing special” when you can say “DISASTER! CITIES UNDERWATER! TOTAL DEVASTATION!”? They hunt for the worst footage, add dramatic music, and throw it into your feed. No one tells you that 95% of the city just got a bit wet.
The problem? When every storm is exaggerated into a “catastrophe,” people stop taking real warnings seriously.
So, what should you do?
✔️ Think critically. Not every dramatic video tells the full story.
✔️ Check official sources. They usually have more facts and less drama.
✔️ Don’t panic. Australia has seen worse, and somehow, we’re still here, flipping snags on the BBQ.
So, did you believe the apocalypse was coming, or did you just enjoy the rain?
