A few people have been asking us about our brooder setup, so I thought I'd share a photo here. We are all about DIY, hubby made me these amazing IBC brooders. Our back verandah is covered in them. There's plenty of room for the 6 weeks they need heat, lots of space to dust bathe and stretch their wings. Then they move up into our huge grower pen.

I prefer heat plates over heat lamps. They are more natural, with the chicks huddling under the warmth, rather than just a warm space in the brooder. And they are much less of a fire hazard too. I angle them so that the chicks can decide how much warmth they need, and it accommodates for a range of sizes too.

Sadly some are small flocks after a fox attack, so I can only offer full dozens for pickup as they will be too old to post. Half dozens of all available for postage, feel free to mix and match half dozens too.
