✨ Equilumes are on, the mares are rugged up, and breeding season is officially on our minds.

While spring may still be a few months away, the preparation starts now. For our non Thoroughbred performance horse breeding program, the planning is well underway. Frozen semen is secured and ready to go, live cover contracts have been signed and the excitement is definitely building.

There’s always something special about this time of year, dreaming about future foals, carefully matching mares and stallions and looking ahead to what the next generation might become.

At Kalil Equine, we’re also gearing up to assist clients throughout the breeding season, with mare set up, walk ons and foaling down services all available.

For now, the girls are enjoying a well earned winter, rugged up and happy, while we count down the days until breeding season arrives.

Dr Louise will be visiting Kalil Equine on the 12 August to consult on gelding concerns and mare issues.

Whether you’re dealing with behavioural concerns in a gelding, reproductive issues in a mare, breeding questions, cycling concerns, or would simply like a professional assessment, this is a great opportunity to have your horse seen by an experienced repro vet.

Learning something new this long weekend as I jump into learning the art of body clipping!

While I’ve clipped faces, legs and manes for show horses for years, learning how to full body clip is a skill I’ve been keen to add to my growing list of skills and experience.

A huge thank you to Justin and Rachel from B Cool Bloodstock for organising the day. Rachel, your patience, kindness and willingness to share your knowledge was incredible. Having spent many years clipping thousands of horses, from racehorses to show ponies, your wealth of experience is second to none, and I truly appreciate the time and effort you put into helping me learn.

Thank you also to Shoshone for generously giving up your time and allowing me to practise on your beautiful riding pony, Ballet. She was an absolute pleasure to work with.

One of the things I love most about the horse industry is that there are always opportunities to develop new skills and keep improving. I already have a few ideas for the next steps in perfecting this art, so stay tuned as I continue developing my clipping skills and refining another aspect of horse care that I’m passionate about.

Over the next little while, I’ll also be sharing some more videos and behind-the-scenes content as I continue learning and building my confidence with the clipping process.

A huge congratulations to Brett Robb (Robb Racing), Izzy and connections for the win at Dubbo today with RUBELIN! We were fortunate to have Rubelin spell at Kalil earlier in the year. Congratulations everyone!

Congratulations also to Mick and Mel Mulholland (Mick Mulholland Racing) and connections, with TALKACHINO taking the win in Race 8! Talkachino featured in one of our speller videos earlier in the year!

We love seeing the success trainers and owners have after their horses spell with us!!

The Kalil Equine float has had a bit of a makeover!

A huge thank you to Mountain Signs in Mudgee for bringing my vision to life with the new signage. It looks incredible and I’m so proud to finally see it out on the road. But this is about more than just new signage on a float. To me, it represents a milestone. A reflection of how far Kalil Equine has come and everything it has grown into over the past three years.

When Kalil began, the concept was simple – a spelling farm built around a deep appreciation for the privilege of working from the historic Guntawang property. I love seeing horses come in needing a break, then head back into work healthy, happy and full of energy. Over time, opportunities arose to offer more services. Not because I had to, but because these are the things I genuinely love doing.

From preparing yearlings and pouring heart and soul into young horses as they take their first steps into the public eye, to foaling down mares and witnessing those incredible moments of first breaths, first steps and first drinks. From supporting rehabilitation horses and their owners through some of the most challenging and emotional times, to providing everyday care that people trust me with, every horse and every journey means something to me.

Kalil was never built around how many horses I could have or how much money I could make. It has always been about doing something I love, the opportunity to work from this incredible property, to build relationships with trainers, owners and my local community, and to play a small part in each horse’s story and future.

This signage isn’t just promoting a business. It represents my life, my vision and everything I am passionate about. Every day, I feel incredibly lucky to do what I get to do.

Brummagen, trained by Brett Thompson Racing, is certainly enjoying his spell, rugged up in his warm sunflower rug and making the most of the welcome rain as we head into winter 🌻🐴🌧️

The recent rain has been a blessing, freshening up paddocks the cooler weather sets in.

We’re currently caring for over 20 client horses here at Kalil Equine and we are incredibly grateful for the ongoing support of our wonderful owners. Whether your horse is here for spelling or rehabilitation, thank you for trusting us with their care.

A new service is on the way! ✂️

We’ll soon be introducing professional body clipping, with appointments available at our facility to begin with.

To kick things off, we’re fortunate to have Kirralee Martin working alongside us, bringing her experience and an extra set of skilled hands as we launch this service.

As we expand, we’ll also be offering scheduled trips to Dubbo, making it easier for clients to access the service.

At Kalil, it’s about attention to detail, consistency, and taking pride in every horse… turning fluffy winter coats into sleek, polished horses ready to shine.
