Two best mates working out together ❤️💜

~ 🖤𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐅𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐃𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡.
🖤David died of SUDEP (sudden unexpected death in epilepsy) aged 23.

In an excerpt from their story, his parents, Richard and Heather, tell us:

“People with epilepsy want to be treated normally, I think.

However hard, it is important for those around them to understand the condition and to remain calm during a seizure and reassuring as the seizure ends and consciousness returns (that’s the frightening time for the affected person).

To provide a secure, loving environment is crucial;🥰 to try not to be too restrictive over activities that might be incompatible with epilepsy (though I accept that this is tricky and needs delicate judgement).

To be willing to talk about the condition and the problems facing an epileptic; to understand that there are times of great sadness and depression☹️ ☹️which have to be worked through with sensitivity.

I think it’s also important for the carers, be they parents, family members or friends, to have access to someone they can lean on for support when the need arises.”

Richard and Heather have been tireless fundraisers…….believing that research holds the answer to a life free of epilepsy.

✅Fundraising has also provided them with a positive focus........It’s also been a good way of keeping in touch with David’s friends.

🕊️Ben did not die of SUDEP but it is a risk that cannot be ignored for those who live with epilepsy.

People die from epilepsy. Our hope is that a cure will be found soon.🙏🏻

𝟕 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐥𝐤𝐬!

For those lucky enough to have known Ben, you’ll know his determination and perseverance to push himself to the max when training.

He had this capacity to drive himself to always go the extra. He had big sporting aspirations and strived to be HIS best.⭐

For those who he coached, y’all agree, he would also push for you to be your best!😉

We may not all be accomplished sporting achievers, but Ben would be our greatest encourager as we work towards the event on March 26th 2023.

So, whatever your goal might be - walking, running, swimming, skipping, biking……..channel your inner Ben - YOU can do this!💪🙌

Tori's story.......“There are no words to describe how your body feels after you have a grand mal or tonic-clonic seizure. ⚡The throbbing pain left in your head afterwards is indescribable.

You refuse to look in the mirror for days because, in my case, I had broken blood vessels all over my face.

Not knowing where you are and how you got there is absolutely heartbreaking. 💔

Once you put all the pieces of the puzzle together and realize what happened, you are overtaken by thousands of emotions, leaving you speechless.
I often found myself randomly in tears because all of the information is just so much to take in.”

There have definitely been bumps in the road….severe mood swings, dizziness, nausea, and many months of bad migraines……

I’ve come to accept that this will be something I will be battling for many more years.”

💜Before Ben died he’d been planning. He'd wanted to raise awareness about life with epilepsy by sharing some of his own personal journey. He wanted to create an event to raise much-needed funds so that one day, hopefully, a cure for epilepsy can be found.

💜💜 is our way of honouring his life and plans and continuing to support the work that gives hope to those living with epilepsy.
