Just a reminder to ALWAYS stay on alert. If you are ever suspicious, log into your actual account never follow a random link…or even better? Call them first on a verified phone number.

We want you to be on high alert for scammers asking you to verify your identity with a selfie to "secure" your myGov account.

Services Australia have let us know people have been receiving message asking them to complete a review. They'll then be taken to a fake Services Australia or myGov website that collects personal information, including your myGov username and password.

These fake websites may also ask you to:
➡️ upload a photo of yourself
➡️ upload a photo of yourself holding your identity documents
➡️ allow access to the camera on your device
➡️ take a live video that records you making different facial expressions.

This is a scam. The criminals behind this can use your selfie to do things like commit fraud, open bank accounts, apply for loans.

Never click on a link to sign in to myGov or your Centrelink online account - always sign in by typing the web address in yourself or via your app.

If you're worried you've been scammed - report it to us so we can help - scamnet.wa.gov.au or call 1300 30 40 54. There's no shame in reporting it.

From 1 July 2026, new laws mean we all have extra responsibilities to help prevent financial crime through property transactions.

We know some of the questions can feel personal, but please know they’re not being asked to make the process harder. They’re legal requirements that apply across Australia.
