A little reminder about privacy — because it matters.
This afternoon, we were reminded just how easily personal information can be exposed when it isn’t handled carefully.
An email from a local real estate agent was sent to more than 200 recipients — with everyone’s email address visible to everyone else.
The result? A chain of “please unsubscribe me” replies, with people who had no connection to one another suddenly having access to each other’s contact details.
It might seem like a small administrative mistake, and while we don’t think this email was sent deliberately, your privacy is no small thing.
We deal with a significant amount of private information. Our clients trust us with their contact details, financial position, property requirements, personal circumstances and, sometimes, information they simply don’t want shared beyond those who genuinely need to know.
That trust is something we take very seriously.
We keep client information private and only provide it to the people who need it, when it is genuinely necessary to progress a purchase or protect our client’s interests.
We don’t believe in putting client details into a database simply because we can.
We don’t believe in sharing information for convenience.
And we certainly don’t believe that “everyone can see everyone else’s email address” is an acceptable way to communicate.
Buying a home is personal. Your information should be treated that way, too.
