The political cycle of "praise and betray" needs to stop. Right across the political spectrum, regardless of the party in power, Australian politicians treat veterans with a form of institutional coercive control. They stand up on Anzac Day to praise our service for votes, and then turn around and quietly strip away our entitlements, cap our medical care, and let the DVA crush us under red tape. Worse yet, they weaponise the actions of heroes to blanket an entire generation of soldiers as criminals. Yet, look at how they treat our actual battlefield opponents post-war—terrorists and enemies who committed horrific, documented war crimes are treated like gods with diplomatic concessions, open-ended aid, and red carpets. Our leaders roll out the velvet glove for former enemies while giving the iron fist to their own veterans. Every single party is guilty of it. Stop the games, stop the gaslighting, and start looking after the people who sacrificed everything for this country
