Morning mass at Cathedral Rocks ๐ŸŒŠโ›ช๏ธ

When the tide pulls back and the light hits just right, this natural spire feels quietly impressive. Mossy rock pools, salty air and waves rolling in at their own pace... itโ€™s one of those spots that reminds you to slow down and look closer.

Best enjoyed at low tide, with sturdy shoes and a healthy respect for the ocean.

What a beautiful picture of our local beach ๐Ÿ๏ธ

Mystics Beach, NSW with Rangoon Island.

This beautiful beach is Mystics beach, also known as Minnamurra beach, and is located just north of the Minnamurra river within Killalea State Park.

The island you can see is Rangoon Island, and it is also known as Stack Island. The island was named after the Rangoon, which was a large ship based at Shellharbour. It was built in 1853, and on the 22nd of March 1870, on a dark and stormy night with low visibility and rough seas, the ship went off course. The captain mistook the entrance to the river as Kiama Harbour, and he ran the ship aground, A local landowner saw the incident and organised a rescue boat, and the crew was saved.

The name Minnamurra is a local indigenous Dharawal word meaning river of many fish, and it was pronounced Meme Mora.

Swooping Season Reminder ๐ŸŒธ

Spring has well and truly sprung in Kiama โ˜€๏ธ Warm sunshine, clear blue skies, blooming gardensโ€ฆ and the return of a familiar feathered friend: the Australian Magpie!

From August to October, magpies may swoop to protect their young. While these birds are usually calm, they can become territorial during nesting season, and that means swooping at people (and pets!) they see as a threat.

Magpies are protected in NSW, so itโ€™s important to respect their space and stay safe. Here are some top tips to avoid a close encounter:

โœ… Be alert near nesting areas & listen for magpie calls
โœ… Avoid known swooping zones if possible
โœ… Wear a wide-brim hat, sunglasses or carry an umbrella
โœ… Travel in groups as magpies often target solo walkers
โœ… Donโ€™t provoke or harass the birds
โœ… Keep eye contact and calmly walk away
โœ… Cyclists: wear a helmet, dismount and walk your bike through nesting zones

๐Ÿ“ If you spot frequent swooping in your area, help others by putting up a temporary warning sign or reporting it to Council.
