Snake Awareness – What Every Local Should Know 🫶✔️

Snakes are a natural part of the environment around Lara and the surrounding regions. As the weather warms, they become more active and sightings increase. Most snakes want nothing to do with people — they’re defensive, not aggressive. Their first priority is always escape.

🔸What To Do If You See a Snake:

• Stay calm and keep your distance (at least 5 metres).
• Do not attempt to touch, chase or kill it. This is when most bites occur.
• Keep pets and children away.
• Watch from a safe distance so you know its last location.

Snakes will move through yards looking for:
• Shelter (wood piles, sheds, rubbish, gaps under houses)
• Food sources (frogs, rodents)
• Warmth
• Water

Removing these attractants greatly reduces the chance of encountering a snake.

• Keep lawns trimmed and gardens maintained
• Seal gaps under doors, sheds and houses

As a licensed handler, I legally relocate snakes up to 5km from where they were found, choosing areas with:

• Water
• Food sources
• Safe distance from homes and people
