Yabba-Dabba-Throwback!

Talk about getting into character!

Who remembers this classic island moment?

Here’s a great piece of local history: Michael Clark fully embracing the spirit of the Russell Island Lions Club's Flintstone Barge Dance! The Southern Moreton Bay Islands have always thrown the best, most unique community fundraisers, but a prehistoric dance on a barge definitely takes the cake.

This definitely looked like it was a night to remember.

Drop a comment if you were there, if you remember what year this was, or if you can still spot Michael’s costume in your own old photo albums!

Throwback Thursday on Russell Island

Today we’re winding the clock back to 2003, when the Courier‑Mail ran its “streets are made of gold” feature — and one of the standout images was local resident Dane Jefferies, photographed in his backyard on Canaipa Point Drive.

We also have the original colour copy of that photo, a snapshot of island life at a time when the Bay Islands were just beginning their rise in value and popularity.

Two decades later, it’s incredible to look back and see how far the islands have come — and how much community stories like Dane’s are part of that journey.

It’s a great reminder of how the Bay Islands have truly transformed — and how sought‑after they continue to be today.

It’s Throwback Thursday on the Redlands Coast, and today we’re doing something a little different.

We’ve pulled out an old photo from the archives — a snapshot of local history, familiar faces, and memories that many of you will recognise.

Take a moment, have a good look, and tell us…

How many people can you spot in this picture?

We’d love to see your guesses. Firstly, like the post and then email the names of who you recognise to [email protected] - make sure you follow our page.

Everyone who enters goes into the draw to win a $50 WISH gift card. Winner announced next week.

It’s a bit of fun, a bit of nostalgia, and a great way to stay connected with our community.

Good luck — and enjoy the throwback!

Throwback Thursday returns, inviting us to pause, look back, and honour the stories that shaped our islands.

The original, historic fire trucks used by the early bush fire brigades on Russell Island and surrounding coastal Queensland communities were built using rugged, post-WWII or early commercial chassis.

The "Blitz" Truck: Many local island brigades across Australia originally relied on converted Ford or Chevrolet Canadian Military Pattern (CMP) "Blitz" trucks surplus from World War II. They were highly valued for their nearly indestructible 4x4 or 6x6 drivetrains, which easily navigated rough, unpaved island sand tracks

Today, on Throwback Thursday, we tip our hat to long time Russell Island resident, Skipper Billy Bates and the great old days.

Today’s Throwback Thursday shines a light on the moments that shaped life on our islands — the everyday scenes that became our shared history.

Taking shape on Scotts Road, the church’s rising frame hints at the memories and moments it will soon hold for Macleay Island.

We’d love to hear your memories of this milestone in our island community.
