We finally broke ground on Kathy’s garden.

The brief was a garden to compliment the beautiful classic house, it had to be super low maintenance but full of flowers and colour.

We created this curved pathway lined with corten metal edging and Riverstone pebbles ( thanks to Jimel ) to be able to meander through the plantings.

The plants feature pink Callistemons and Grevilleas, Camillia marg miller, rhapliolepdis oriental pearl, white Agapanthus, Pentas and more ..

Follow this project, we plant it out and watch it grow.

Some interesting plants at Noosa’s botanical gardens :

Dombeya burgessiae is a large tropical shrub, commonly known as a pink wild pear or tropical hydrangea, featuring massive clusters of pink flowers that bloom in winter. The plant thrives in full sun to partial shade and is native to South Africa, growing up to 7-12 feet tall.It is known for its large, velvety leaves and attracts bees and butterflies.

Grevillea 'Kimberley Gold', a shrub known for its holly-shaped, grey-green

Elephant Apple tree (Dillenia indica), characterized by its large, leathery, prominently veined leaves and hefty, greenish-yellow, segmented fruits. The fruits, which can measure 5-12 cm across, are mucilaginous and permanently covered by a greenish-yellow calyx. While these tropical trees are often planted for ornamental purposes, the tart fruits are also edible and commonly used in chutneys, pickles, and traditional dishes in Asia. The tree thrives in warm, humid climates and is native to Southeast Asia and parts of the Indian subcontinent.

Follow this garden on Macleay Island as it comes to life.

The soil is clay loam and the sunlight was dappled.

The client wanted a low maintenance native garden.

Grevilleas usually like a sandy well drained soil but there are certain cultivars of grevilleas that will tolerate a clay soil. Two of them are Grevillea Honey gem and Bulli beauty. We have decided to go with the Bulli beauty to add a splash of pink.

We have also chosen Banksia Giant candles and a banksia ground cover .

The beautiful Russelia ‘lemon falls’ will hang over the edge of the retaining wall ❤️❤️❤️

Ever wonder what should be pruned when and just don’t bother to look it up? Do you have plants that don’t flower when they should or suffer from fungal disease because you pruned when you shouldn’t.

Good pruning can drastically improve the amount of flowering and fruiting in your garden.

The thing about pruning is there are no real fast rules. Everything is different so really each plant needs to be researched to know how to get the best for your plants !!

Well Good News!! I am presently working on a pruning guide . It will be a comprehensive list of plants with their flowering times and the season they should be pruned in and how.
It will be focused on the climate in the southern Morton bay Islands..

I have started by listing all the plants in my own garden and now anybody else on the islands and in our area who would like to have their plants included on the data base just put the plant name in the comments section and I will include it in the list.
