Behind every strata scheme is a team of people making sure things keep moving and today, we’re introducing two of the faces you’ll often find out and about on the ground with Your Strata Services.

🏢 Cassandra — Director & Founder
You’ll often find Cassandra meeting with committees, inspecting properties, attending meetings, solving problems and generally asking “Okay… how can we make this easier?”

With 15+ years in strata, she’s passionate about doing things differently, being proactive, accessible and actually getting to know the people and properties she manages.

🔎 Tamyka — Strata Search Expert
Tamyka is our resident search expert, spending plenty of time in the records and making sure the details don’t get missed.

She’s thorough, organised and knows her way around a strata file, which is exactly what you want when you’re making an important property decision.

Did you know Cassandra and Tamyka are SISTERS?! 👯‍♀️
Yep — YSS is quite literally a family affair!

Which means they’ve had years of practice working together… and probably a few years of practice disagreeing with each other too! 😂

Strata is changing and staying ahead matters. 🏢✨

Last week, our Director, Cassandra, had the pleasure of attending the 2026 Strata Impact Conference on the Gold Coast. It was two days of thought-provoking conversations, research, industry expertise and plenty of discussion about where the strata sector is heading next.

A few key takeaways that really stood out:

🔹 Strata is becoming increasingly complex
As apartment living continues to grow, the expectations on Owners Corporations, committees, strata managers and industry professionals are increasing too. Good governance and informed decision-making are more important than ever.

🔹 Prevention is better than reaction
From moisture and mould, to building resilience and sustainability retrofits, the message was clear - identifying issues early, understanding the risks and planning properly can save owners significant stress and expense down the track.

🔹 The human side of strata matters
Incivility, conflict and psychological safety are genuine issues within strata communities. Effective strata management isn't just about legislation and administration, it's also about communication, relationships and creating constructive environments for owners and committees.

🔹 The industry is looking ahead
There was plenty of discussion around regulatory reform, delegation across jurisdictions and what a future model Strata Act could look like. The sector continues to evolve, and staying informed is essential.

For us at Your Strata Services, professional development isn't simply about attending events, it's about bringing that knowledge back to the schemes we manage and using it to provide better advice, stronger governance and more proactive strata management.

✨ A New Chapter for The Huxley Apartments

We’re incredibly proud to share that Your Strata Services has been appointed as the strata managing agent for The Huxley Apartments, a beautiful mixed-use community nestled in the heart of Newcastle.

This appointment certainly didn’t happen overnight.

It was the result of months of conversations, building relationships, understanding the needs of the community and, most importantly, demonstrating what a boutique, hands-on strata management approach can look like.

We’re incredibly grateful to the owners who took the time to meet with us, ask the hard questions and ultimately place their trust in YSS to manage their community moving forward.

For us, taking on a new scheme is never just about adding another building to our portfolio. It’s about taking responsibility for a community, understanding what matters to its owners and being there to genuinely make a difference.

The Huxley is a particularly exciting appointment for us, and we’re looking forward to getting to know the building, its owners and the unique needs of this wonderful community.

From the outside, an Annual General Meeting can look effortless.

The agenda is followed, decisions are made, questions are answered, and the meeting comes to a close.

What many don't see are the weeks of preparation beforehand.

Reviewing financials. Coordinating reports. Preparing motions. Responding to owner enquiries. Chasing outstanding information. Ensuring legislative compliance. Anticipating the questions that are likely to arise and being ready for the ones that no one saw coming.

Whilst no one welcomes a significant increase in levies, it's important to understand why the increase is being proposed rather than assuming the worst.

Levy contributions aren't increased on a whim. They are determined by the budget presented to owners and approved at the Annual General Meeting (AGM).

There are many legitimate reasons why levies may need to increase, including funding planned major works, building upgrades, defect rectification, rising insurance costs, inflation, or meeting essential fire safety and compliance requirements.

The AGM is your opportunity to ask questions, understand the proposed budget, and have your say before the levies are approved. Rather than guessing the reasons behind an increase, get involved in the process and make an informed decision as an owner.
