Here are the last few things you should consider when buying a property with your partner:

7. Total Permanent Disability (TPD)
Total Permanent Disability cover is another insurance worth considering. It will protect you financially in the event that you are unable to work again either in your current occupation or at all. TPD provides you with an ongoing payment that can help cover outlays such as rehabilitation, debt repayments and the future cost of living.

8. How to split expenses
Aside from the more obvious cost of the property itself (which you’ll need to work out too!), buying a home comes with a lot of additional and ongoing costs. There’s stamp duty, legal fees, maintenance, strata, furniture…the list goes on.

We can connect you with the right people to help you with any of these.

Here are more considerations when buying property with your partner 💕

4. Mortgage liability
Whether you opt to be joint tenants or tenants in common, if you take out a home loan with someone else, be it a friend or spouse, you become jointly liable for the mortgage. What this means is that you are both responsible for the entire loan, including the other person’s share of it, so if they default, it is your responsibility to pick up the slack.

5. Life insurance
While it’s grim to think about when on the high of your first property purchase, life insurance must be discussed.

6. Income protection insurance
Buying a property and taking out a mortgage are significant financial undertakings so it’s no surprise that they’re key life stages to prompt taking out income protection.

We love pets, but we also know they can’t always come on your holiday or to work with you. They're not usually very helpful when moving homes.

Don’t stress, our contacts include trustworthy local pet care and sitters so you can leave your furry family members in safe hands 🐶

There are some serious factors to consider when buying a property with your partner. It’s easy to get caught up on plant sales and Pinterest boards, but before you go shopping for your very own love fern. Here are some things to consider:

1. Joint tenancy
Deciding how to split ownership is the foremost consideration you’ll make, and it usually takes one of two forms: joint tenancy or tenants in common.

2. Tenants in common
Tenants in common, on the other hand, is an agreement that allows two or more people to have a defined share of a property and be separately responsible for their portion.

3. Co-ownership agreement
Should you choose to sign on the dotted line as tenants in common, you’ll need to organise a co-ownership agreement.

Ensure your home is safe and secure in the lead up to our unpredictable Aussie summer by checking off these maintenance to-dos ✅

4. Protect your home from lightning strikes
Summer can also be a significant time for electrical storms. Lightning strikes can cause fires, damage property and wreak havoc on your wiring and electronics.

5. Patch any holes in your building
Not figuratively, but literally. From roof leaks to holes in the fly screen, you’ll want to get those holes sorted as soon as possible before summer hits to weather-proof your home from extreme heat.
