The gate hinge, if located on the outside of the pool fence, is often a climbing point for small children. Any horizontal surface on the pool fence that exceeds 10mm is a potential climbing point. Gate hinges can easily be rendered "non-climbable" by attaching a pointed "hinge cap". I carry these with me to every job to help clients with their compliance.

Check the gap now. There's a lot you can do to prepare your pool prior to inspection & getting your certificate.
