After months of planning and hard work, we are excited to announce the completion of the Hanover Street Wall project! This has been a labour of love, involving the careful deconstruction of the original 1870s wall, installing new footings and drainage, and then reconstructing it under the watchful eye of experts. We're proud to have preserved this piece of history for the community to enjoy for years to come. A huge thank you to everyone who supported and contributed to making this project a reality!

Preserving Cairo Flats' Legacy: Northern Boundary Wall Restoration Project.

The Cairo Flats Owners Corporation is dedicated to safeguarding the building's rich heritage.

The existing northern boundary wall, dating back to Uxbridge House (1870s), has stood since Cairo Flats' construction in 1936. Time and natural elements have taken their toll, necessitating repairs to the foundation, brickwork, drainage, and landscaping.

This meticulous project involves dismantling the wall brick by brick, followed by foundation and drainage work. Finally, under the watchful eye of heritage consultants, the wall will be meticulously rebuilt.

A permit from Heritage Victoria ensures adherence to preservation guidelines.

Cairo is a 2013 novel by Australian author Chris Womersley. The novel takes its name from the Cairo Flats, where the protagonist, Tom, lives.⁠
