Get ready for Victoria’s new rental laws ✅

Victoria’s rent rules are changing for everyone.

From 29 March, more than 130 reforms to Victoria’s renting laws will come into effect.

The new laws will start immediately after the moratorium on evictions ends, ensuring there is no gap between the end of these measures and the start of the new rental reforms.

The new rent rules will create a fairer, safer system for all. They will increase protections for renters, while ensuring rental providers can effectively manage their properties.

The law changes will apply to all types of tenancies, including private rentals, caravan and residential parks, and rooming houses.

2020 was truly an unexpected year with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and lockdowns keeping us safe at home for most of the time. But, we made the best out of an unprecedented time, and there are many things we are thankful for. Whether you were able to spend extra time with your family or roommates, or pick up hobbies at home that you never had time to enjoy before, we made unique memories this year.

Reserve Bank cuts interest rates to record low of 0.1 per cent during COVID-19 recession.

Key points:

✅The official cash rate is expected to remain at 0.1 per cent until 2024
✅Reserve Bank Governor Philip Lowe says the unemployment rate is likely to peak at 8 per cent and drop to 6 per cent by the end of 2022
✅Dr Lowe said the cash rate was very unlikely to drop below zero because it would not help stimulate spending
✅A reduction in the target for the yield on the three-year Australian government bond to around 0.1 per cent
✅A reduction in the interest rate on exchange settlement balances to zero.
