Today marks a special moment and a bond we all share as Australians from all walks of life. We give thanks and honour the veterans and soldiers who fought to protect our country in times of need. They risked their lives for us and sacrificed precious time with their families and loved ones to serve this great nation.
My parents immigrated from Italy in the 1970s to Australia in search of a better life. They worked hard, respected the Australian way of life and its laws, and never took that opportunity for granted.
Being a first-generation Australian, growing up in the 80โs and 90โs is something I will always be proud of. In my view, it reflected the true spirit of this country.
Australia is a great nation. However, I also feel that it is not what it once was. In my opinion, the direction we are heading in doesnโt fully reflect the values that many Australians hold close, and I believe some of those values are slowly being lost.
This is just my opinion, one voice among many. But I know there are Australians who may feel the same, and to them, I offer my respect.
ANZAC Day is a time to remember, reflect, and honour those who served and to hope that Australia continues striving to be a country we can all be proud of.
Lest we forget.
