Recently for R U OK Day, our Southern PIR teams collaboratively planned, prepared and cooked a meal before sitting down and eating together πŸ’›

They had a yarn about staff wellbeing, mental health, and how they can support each other and community beyond R U OK Day 🀝🏾

Last Friday 11 September, community, stakeholders, and first responders gathered to celebrate the opening of our new Morwell site!

A special thank you to Aunty Michelle Dow for presenting us with a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony, and to the Boorun Boys Dance Group for their touching performance that shared stories and culture through dance ❀

PIR Executive Manager Melissa Donovan proudly said, "Today is so much more than just opening a centre. This is about a fundamental change in the way we respond to people.

For generations, public intoxication has been predominantly viewed through a criminal justice lens which was never designed to address the health, social, or cultural needs sitting behind people’s circumstances.

Today, we are standing here as a part of a very different approach. Instead of punishment, we provide care."

Our Morwell site is at 94-96 Buckley Street, Morwell. Supports through public intoxication in Latrobe Valley and surrounds are 24/7. Call 7043 9175 for Victoria's PIR Centralised Intake, Referral and Dispatch service.

πŸ’› R U OK? Day is a reminder that a simple yarn can go a long way. It’s an opportunity to reach out to family, friends, Elders, community, or someone you trust and ask, "You alright?"

Need someone to talk to? Ngwala is here for a yarn on 1800 NGWALA (1800 649 252). You can also call 13YARN (13 92 76) anytime, day or night, for culturally safe support from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Crisis Supporters.

Remember, you don't have to carry it all on your own. Check in with your mob today because we’re stronger when we look after each other πŸ’›

Our Northern Metro Women’s Group has been an amazing way to engage with mob lately. We've been switching things up from the usual arts and crafts and introducing more movement, interaction and fun activities for the group 🌟

The women have enjoyed activities such as karaoke, table tennis, and 10-minute random game rotations, which has gotten everyone involved, created lots of laughter, real connection and positive energy!

We gather every Tuesday from 12pm at 14 Risley Street, Richmond - come and join the fun in a relaxed and culturally safe environment πŸ₯°
