From March 2027, new minimum energy efficiency standards for rental properties in Victoria come into effect in phases.

What the standards cover

The new standards cover heating, cooling, hot water, shower heads, ceiling insulation, and draughtproofing.

Rental providers won't need to complete all upgrades at once. Each standard has its own trigger, such as the start of a new rental agreement or an existing appliance failing beyond repair.

Discounts and rebates are available to reduce the cost of upgrades.

Exemptions apply for each standard where compliance is not possible.
