In business, as in life, we all move through different seasons.

Some are full of momentum and certainty. Others are about change, reassessing, learning and working out what comes next.

When you're in the middle of one of those transitions, it can be difficult to see beyond what's immediately in front of you.

But the clouds don't mean the sun has disappeared.

Accountability looks different for everyone...

For me, it’s making time for movement, looking after both my physical and mental fitness, and surrounding myself with people who encourage and support me.

You can start at any time. You don’t need to have everything figured out, and you certainly don’t have to do it alone.

Having the right people in your corner creates accountability, keeps you moving forward and gives you the space to focus on whatever the day presents.

It’s a holistic approach that I’m learning to value more and more - personally and professionally.

Sometimes the hardest part of property maintenance isn't the job itself...

It's knowing who to call.

Finding reliable trades, explaining what needs to be done, arranging access, getting quotes and then coordinating the work can quickly become another job in itself.

And when several different trades are required, it becomes even more important that everyone understands what is happening and when.

Having trusted people you can call makes a huge difference.

Over the years, I've learned that a good network of reliable trades is one of the most valuable resources you can have when looking after property.

A good quote should help you understand exactly what work is being proposed.

What is included?

Are materials included?

Is there preparation work required first?

Is there anything else that could affect the final cost?

Having clarity before agreeing to works makes it much easier to compare options and make an informed decision.

And sometimes, once you have the right information in front of you, you may decide the work isn't necessary at all.

The goal isn't simply to get the job done.

It's to make the right decision for the property.

But a list of jobs isn't quite a plan...

Before booking trades, it's worth working out which items are necessary, which need professional advice and which should be quoted before making a decision.

Some jobs may even affect what needs to happen next.

Taking a little time to organise the work at the beginning can save a lot of back and forth later.
