Did you know one of the things that makes Mount Barker's main street so unique is that the majority of its buildings are still privately owned?

That's incredibly rare in a thriving regional town. In many successful centres, prime main street properties are gradually acquired by large developers and corporate investors. Here in Mount Barker, many are still owned by local families and long-term investors who have a genuine connection to the town.

That diversity of ownership has helped preserve the character of our CBD, supported a vibrant mix of independent businesses, and contributed to the unique atmosphere that makes Mount Barker such a great place to live, work and invest.

Mount Barker has changed a lot over the years... and we've been lucky enough to witness it firsthand.

From the days of the tannery and meatworks, when Mount Barker had a very different reputation, to the thriving regional hub it is today, it's been incredible to watch our town evolve.

With new neighbourhoods, local businesses, schools and families calling Mount Barker home, it's easy to see why so many people are choosing to build their future here.

It's set to be a very exciting week with the official opening of the state-of-the-art gallery at The Cedars in Hahndorf.

As Chair of the Hans Heysen Foundation, this milestone represents the culmination of years of planning, hard work and dedication from so many passionate people.

The Cedars is already one of Australia's most significant artistic treasures, and this new gallery will further enhance its standing as a nationally recognised cultural icon. It's an incredible achievement for our region, and I'm looking forward to celebrating this exciting new chapter for such an important part of the Adelaide Hills' history.

As Chair of Business Mount Barker, it was a privilege to speak with our local councillors about the work our organisation has undertaken over the past 20+ years to help shape and advocate for the Mount Barker CBD.

One of the best questions I was asked was: What makes Mount Barker such a unique place to do business?

My answer was simple: population growth.

There are very few regional centres in Australia experiencing the growth that Mount Barker is. With more people choosing to call the Adelaide Hills home every year, local businesses have access to opportunities that simply don't exist in many other regional communities.

That growth brings challenges, but it also creates enormous potential. It's what makes Mount Barker such an exciting place to own, invest in and grow a business.

I'm looking forward to continuing to work with Council, local businesses and the wider community to help ensure our town centre continues to thrive.

It's always rewarding to see a great development come to life.

We were pleased to help facilitate the sale of the land that is now home to Care Clean Carwash Victor Harbor and Mount Barker on Wellington Road, and it's fantastic to see the site now open and serving the community.

The car wash is modern, easy to use and a great addition to Mount Barker's growing list of local services.

Congratulations to Haydn and everyone involved in bringing the project to life. You've built a fantastic development and another great business for Mount Barker. 👏

We've sold some interesting properties across the Adelaide Hills over the years, but few are as iconic as the World's Biggest Rocking Horse in Gumeracha.

Around 20 years ago, when this much-loved attraction was facing closure, we were approached by the SA Tourism Commission to help find a buyer. Fortunately, we were able to connect it with someone who truly understood its value and had the vision to see what it could become.

Fast forward to today, and it's wonderful to see the Rocking Horse busier than ever, continuing to delight locals and visitors alike.

It's not every day you get to sell one of South Australia's most recognisable landmarks — and it's even better seeing it thrive all these years later.
