Growth for growth's sake is just accelerating towards an unknown direction.
In April I flew to Sydney to keynote the REINSW Wire Conference — an exclusive event where I shared the concepts sitting at the core of my book and the way I lead my business every day.
The central idea: stop focusing on external conditions and start focusing on your internal state. I inherited a business millions in debt when my parents passed away suddenly. I thought surviving that was passing some kind of test. What I didn't realise is there is no test. The messy middle never ends — and that's not a problem. That's just leadership.
I also pushed hard on two things that don't get enough airtime. One — the standard you walk past is the standard you accept. When you let it slide, you don't just lose the standard. You demoralise everyone who was holding it. Two — better before bigger. Before you chase the next number, ask what you can do better right now. It changes every decision you make.
I've written up the key takeaways from that talk — read the full piece below
