If you like a long lunch in the sun, you'll love the walled garden courtyard at Willowmount.

It's sheltered enough that you get sun without the wind, properly usable for the Mount Macedon climate, not just nice to look at. Over the years it's held a cubby house, a basketball hoop, even a trampoline for a while. Easy to picture it full of people instead, a barbecue going, everyone lingering longer than planned because nobody wants to leave.

The weekend of the Bolobek Garden Fair is going to be a good one, and it's coming up next weekend.

Moving somewhere new with young kids, one of the quiet worries is whether you'll actually get to know anyone or fit in. At 19 Brocchi Road, that's less of a concern than you'd think.

That's how one family member described the kitchen at Willowmount, the 1980s-built family home in Mount Macedon.

It's the layout that makes it work. A butler's pantry that keeps the mess out of sight during a big dinner, and doors straight out to the secure courtyard, so you can cook with one eye on the children outside. Another family remembers their daughter out there on her trike, playing with her dog, while dinner was on. It's a great secure space for children to play.

After visiting it's easy to see how the walled garden courtyard would make a lovely suntrap to enjoy a coffee in and the lightwell keeps the kitchen bright.

What you can't see from the photos is the TV space making the kitchen a cosy space to hang out as a family.

Elsewhere in the house, there's even a dedicated room for the big Costco run, proper bulk storage, not just an overflow cupboard. It may be first time we have had a house with a dedicated Costco room.
