Following on from our last little design statement…

Details are funny like that. The thing that quietly lingers on the plan has a way of becoming the thing your eye lands on every single day once it’s built.

Like that awkward junction. Or that lonely light switch. Or the window that is just slightly… off. You know what we mean.

It seemed tiny on paper. Very large in real life.

And look, not every detail needs to be precious. We are not here to overthink the design journey of a downpipe.

But some details matter because they change how a space feels, works, ages, cleans, flows, photographs, sells… and generally behaves like a decent member of your household.

Designing a home well is knowing which details deserve attention before they become permanent mismatches. So don’t skip the thing your gut keeps side-eyeing. They're probably scanning for a reason.

We see this all the time with clients. We clock the poky entry, the odd little window to the neighbours, the bathroom door doing interpretive dance with the vanity... all of which can be easily brushed off on paper.

Because no one wants to be annoying or slow things down. Or sometimes the budget is already a bit of an awkward convo. And often its because of the ideology that “we’ll make it work.” (And sometimes we do get it work, yay.)

But often that “we’ll make it work” turns into the daily, annoying uttering while standing in the exact spot clients knew was not quite right on the plan.

That’s the thing with houses. They don’t forget the conversations avoided.
They build them in. Good design is poking at the annoying bit before it becomes concrete... and a variation invoice or a renovation later.
So, here's your permission to not be afraid to call out things as they show up. Don't put them off or be blasé about it. Ask your planning questions early. It's so much cheaper to change there.

And you, what’s your week started like…

This is the glamorous part of design.
By glamorous, we mean sitting with a stylus, a site, about 47 competing priorities, and one orange cat who has appointed himself project manager.

Emma’s working through the early design thinking for a 2-lot subdivision in Biggera Waters — testing the moves that matter before the plans get locked in.

Things like:
where the light comes from
how the breezes move
what deserves privacy
what earns a view
and how to make two homes feel bespoke, not bulky, generic or suspiciously duplex-ish... yuck.

In other words:
privacy not prestige
function not fluff
smart not showy

It is true that good design is less about adding more, and more about knowing what NOT to do.

Look forward to showing you more as we go along.

This week, we’re revealing the MPR (multi-purpose room) — the “one room, many uses” space that can seriously lift both liveability and sellability.

The goal with this one was flexibility, without feeling cluttered:
✅ built-in desk + storage for WFH
✅ a timber wall gym zone
✅ a guest bed option via a desk/bed solution
✅ cavity sliders so you can shut it off when you need calm

It’s a small space move that makes the whole home feel more functional.

How would you use it? Office, gym, guest room, kids zone… or all of the above?

Space Fix Files — Kitchen + Dining reveal 🍽️

Continuing our weekly series on that local open-home layout we couldn’t stop thinking about… this week is all about the space that sells the lifestyle: the kitchen + dining.
We’ve kept the same footprint, but re-planned it for:
✅ a galley kitchen that adds storage and improves workflow
✅ a proper pantry zone
✅ island + dining combined so the kitchen becomes the social hub
✅ clearer zones so it feels more open, more functional, and more “buyer-ready”

Question: Would you rather have more storage or a bigger dining zone in a kitchen like this?
