Walers Horse Stud. So when I saw a program on Burke's backyard about their plight in the Northern Territory my interest was piqued.

Our interest began in 1980"s when we attended a horse course in Young where the lecturer described an Australian warmblood called a waler and its history as lighthorse mount but they were no longer available. I immediately set abut finding out how I could help these Australian horses be saved from extinction. It all started with the purchase of our 1st mare Providence Gaza who ended up being the d

am of Providence El Arish one of the founding stallion of the Waler Horse Society. We then managed to acquire 2 weanlings Providence Carbineer and Providence Bishari who originated from Jinka station in 1989. These 2 horse have become the foundation of our stud today. Between them they have produced sires such as Providence Redman.

Spent some time this morning wishing Happy Birthday to all our horses by giving them a brush and a cuddle. Enjoying the beautiful sunshine. Pictured below is our latest arrival the very stunning Willing Noble Victoria Cross, purebred Gardens Waler mare bred in the NT.

This week we said goodbye to my heart horse of the century, my main man Providence Comet’s Fire. Bred by my parents he was born at Providence and he was the reason I returned to horses and riding. He was the first Waler we campaigned. His biggest achievement was carrying the Camp Gallipoli Flame at the Australian war memorial in 2015. He was my main riding horse until he was semi-retired to “nanny” the colts in 2021 and boy did he do an amazing job at that. Creating 3 solid citizens, he was even pulled out of the paddock to go to a show with baby Duke and still won his class. Anyone that visited can attest to his ability to just “be” in your presence. I trusted him with my children. His loss is enormous and I cry at his absence in my paddock. He was the rock for the others to lean on. We love you Comet.

So very humbled today to receive this award from our local RSL sub-branch in recognition of our contribution to our local Anzac March. My involvement is just so people can see these wonderful horses and is a tribute to the men and horses who served and gave their lives. It contains sand from the beach of Gallipoli. Lest we forget
