Ten metres to the shops and restaurants. Fifty metres to Noosa Main Beach.

You park underneath your own villa when you arrive and the car does not move again until you leave.

No shuttle. No lift. No circling Hastings Street on a Saturday looking for a space.

Tell us your first stop when you get here. Ours is the coffee.

Three bedrooms, three bathrooms, and no queue for a shower.

Which matters more than you'd think when there are six of you and everyone wants to be on the sand before nine.

The rest of it is simple. Your own front door. Your own parking underneath. Somewhere to hang the wet towels. Nobody else's holiday happening through the wall.

And you're barely indoors anyway. The beach is fifty metres away, breakfast is ten.

School holidays start tomorrow. Tell us who'd be in yours.

Villa 16. Ella's call, not ours.

Two bedrooms, two bathrooms, so nobody is negotiating over a shower at eight in the morning. Parking directly underneath. The resort pool a short walk down the path for when the sand gets too much.

Fifty metres to Noosa Main Beach. Ten metres to breakfast.

Spring holidays run 19 September to 5 October, and the Monday after is a public holiday, so there's an extra day in it.

Ours usually looks like a surf before breakfast, a long lunch that nobody clears, and an afternoon nap nobody is allowed to mention.

Spring holidays in Noosa. Here's the whole plan, and it isn't much of a plan.

School holidays run 19 September to 5 October. The water's warm again, the days stretch out, and the whole town has moved outside.

Book the surf lesson at First Point. Everything else can wait.

The rest, in no particular order. Kayaks and pelicans on the river at Gympie Terrace, fish and chips on the grass while the sun goes down. The walk through the national park to the Fairy Pools at Granite Bay, go at low tide, they'll talk about it all year. Bikes. Long breakfasts. Sandy floors.

Then back to the villa with everyone under one roof and nowhere to be at any particular time.

Save this for the holidays. What's the one thing your kids ask for every single trip?
