A FUTURE professional surfer was reunited with the camera containing his vital surfing tips yesterday.
Seven-year-old Jakeb Spicer and his dad Simon appeared in a photo in Monday's Daily after the Noosa Heads Police Beat released an image from a GoPro camera handed in by a swimmer at Noosa Main Beach on January 4.
The mystery of who owned the camera had been solved in a matter of hours after friends recognised the family in the photo.
Simon had contacted the station before 8.30am and Jakeb picked up his beloved camera, a combined Christmas and birthday present, a few hours later.
The Yaroomba family had strapped it to the front of Jakeb's surfboard to capture video as Simon taught him how to surf.
"We went to great lengths to make sure it wouldn't drop off, we superglued the mounting kit onto the board," mum Tara said.
"He had a little collision with another surfer and it came off.
"It was such a big day for him and then it was gone.
"He was a bit bummed because he had caught some good waves and it's pretty good feedback to sit and watch how he is going."
The camera captured about 20 minutes of footage of it rolling around in the surf before it switched itself off but Jakeb said he was looking forward to seeing the lost footage of his magical day in the surf.
"I'm just doing it for fun. I like the part when I go on the right side," he said.
Noosa Heads officer-in-charge Senior Constable Nic Van der Maat said it was one of the nicer sides of the job to see people reunited with their prized possessions.
