📢 Help Your Residents Get Census Ready - Tuesday 11 August

The next Census is an important opportunity to ensure people living in strata communities, apartments, townhouses and other shared living environments are counted accurately.

Strata committees and building managers can play a valuable role by helping raise awareness among residents. Consider displaying Census information on notice boards, digital screens, community portals, newsletters and other resident communication channels.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) has developed a range of free posters and resources that can be downloaded and shared within your building community.

The National Smart Meter Rollout commenced on 1 December 2025, with the objective of delivering new smart meters to all National Electricity Market (NEM) customers by 30 November 2030.

In New South Wales, the rollout is now a legal requirement under the NEM Rules, with electricity retailers responsible for replacing existing meters. These smart meters are digital devices that remotely transmit electricity usage data to the retailer, replacing manual meter readings and enabling more accurate billing and improved energy monitoring.

Retailers are responsible for meter replacement and, in some cases, may require upgrades to the electrical switchboard or surrounding infrastructure to facilitate installation.

They will notify strata managers in advance of any temporary power interruption, with:

➡️ An initial notice issued between 60 and 25 days prior to the replacement date; and

➡️ A second notice is issued at least 10 business days after the first notice and no later than 15 days before the scheduled replacement.

Strata managers are not required to be present during the meter exchange.

🎖️ King's Birthday Honours for Two Titans of the Strata Industry

Strata Community Association (NSW) proudly congratulates two of the industry's most influential figures, Peter Clisdell OAM and the late Phillip Duggan OAM, who have been recognised in this year's King's Birthday Honours List.

Both Peter and Phil were founding members of the Institute of Strata Title Management (ISTM), the organisation that would later become SCA (NSW), and have played an extraordinary role in shaping the strata profession we know today.

Phillip Duggan OAM has been recognised posthumously for his service to strata management and the community. As co-founder of Bright & Duggan, Phil helped build one of Australia's leading strata management businesses while dedicating decades to advancing professionalism, collaboration and education across the industry. A Life Member of SCA (NSW) and recipient of the Max Dunn Award, Phil's legacy continues to be felt throughout the strata community.

Peter Clisdell OAM has been honoured for his service to the real estate industry and the community. Founder of Clisdells Strata Management and Valuations, former SCA (NSW) President, SCA (NSW) Life Member, educator, mentor and community champion, Peter has spent more than five decades contributing to the strata sector while also giving generously through his service to veterans, charities and Angel Flight.

These honours are a fitting recognition of two remarkable careers defined by leadership, service, integrity and an unwavering commitment to improving both the strata profession and the broader community.

Congratulations to Peter, and to Phil's family, friends and colleagues on this well-deserved recognition.
