The WA Government has announced the next phase of proposed changes to the Residential Tenancies Act, including the removal of โno groundsโ terminations.
๐๐จ, ๐ฐ๐ก๐๐ญ ๐๐จ๐๐ฌ ๐ญ๐ก๐๐ญ ๐ฆ๐๐๐ง?
Currently, landlords can end some tenancies without providing a specific reason, provided the correct notice period is given. Under the proposed reforms, landlords would instead need a valid reason to terminate a tenancy.

โ Sale of the property
โ Significant renovations or redevelopment
โ The owner or family member moving in
โ Repeated serious breaches by a tenant
โ Non-payment of rent or property damage
The reforms are aimed at creating greater clarity and security within the rental market, while still allowing landlords to regain possession of properties under lawful circumstances.
๐๐ญ ๐ญ๐ก๐ข๐ฌ ๐ฌ๐ญ๐๐ ๐:
๐ The laws have not yet changed
๐ Consultation with industry stakeholders is continuing
๐ A Bill will be introduced to Parliament following consultation
As always, staying informed is important for both landlords and tenants as the rental landscape continues to evolve.
