Buying a home is one of the most exciting things you'll ever do, but it can also be overwhelming if you’re not sure where to start. I’ve helped many buyers through the process and I've also been a buyer myself, so I thought I’d break it down for you:
🏦 1. Start with your deposit
Figure out how much you can comfortably save. Aiming for 20% of the purchase price (plus buying costs) is a solid goal and a great place to start.
💰 2. Know what you can afford to borrow
Your income, savings, and credit history all come into play. Be realistic and make sure you factor in possible interest rate rises.
📉 3. Get the best rate
A small difference in your interest rate can save you thousands. Shop around or use a broker to compare your options and consider getting pre approval so you can act fast when the right home comes along.
🏠 4. Find the right property
Be clear about your must-haves vs nice-to-haves. Stick to your budget, explore different areas, and don’t be afraid to take your time - of course you can also get in touch with me and I can help ;)
📝 5. Negotiate and make an offer
When you’re ready to put in an offer, whether it’s a private sale or auction stay calm, know your limit, and don’t hesitate to ask the real estate agent questions. We’re here to help guide you through the process and make sure you feel confident every step of the way.
🔑 6. Finalise the deal and get the keys
Once settlement day rolls around, your real estate agent and settlement agent/conveyancer will help you cross the finish line. Don’t forget stamp duty, insurance, and updating your budget for mortgage repayments.
Thinking of buying this year and not sure where to start?
