The building and construction industry employs thousands of Western Australians.
The $20,000 WA Building Bonus has played a crucial role in supporting the industry and WAβs economic recovery from COVID-19. It has been a key component of our $5.5 billion jobs and recovery plan, to keep our State safe and strong.
Due to its overwhelming success, today we are extending the construction period so more homebuilders have more time to commence works and be eligible for the grant.
The grants are available to any homebuyer who signs a contract with a builder by December 31, 2020 to build a new house or purchase a new property in a single-tier development (such as a townhouse) prior to completion of construction.
Under the original arrangements, site excavation works to build a new home must start within six months of contracts being signed.
Given the high demand and to help extend the pipeline of work, homebuilders will now have 12 months to commence site excavation works.
This will give more Western Australians the opportunity to access the grant and it will support this important WA industry for longer.
Helping create an even longer pipeline of construction work in WA, providing certainty to the whole industry.
