🔎 WHAT IS AML/CTF & WHY ARE REAL ESTATE AGENTS ASKING FOR MORE INFORMATION?

You may start noticing real estate agencies requesting additional identification and verification documents when buying or selling property — and there’s a very important reason why.

AML/CTF stands for Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing laws. These laws are designed to help prevent criminal activity, protect consumers and ensure property transactions remain transparent and legitimate across Australia.

These changes officially come into effect from 1 July 2026, however you may begin noticing these processes being implemented by agencies prior to this date as the industry prepares for the transition.

As part of these legal obligations, real estate businesses are required to complete Customer Due Diligence (CDD) checks before providing certain regulated services.

What does this mean for you?
