6 ways to transform your home

1) Refresh your window furnishings

Whether curtains, shutters or blinds, new window furnishings will immediately add impact to a space.

Not only will they offer a new or different visual element, but they can impact how light, shade and heat enter your space. Therefore, it's important to consider the most practical solution, as well as the most stylish.

A combination of blinds and sheer curtains can help you control light and privacy.

2) Change the colour or texture of your walls

We all know fresh paint can change up the appearance of a room, but have you thought about other ways you can make over your walls?

Even if you're content with the colour of your room, you can update the texture and overall look through wall panelling.

Wall panelling creates a point of interest and another layer or texture in a room.

3) Update fittings and fixtures

A high-impact cosmetic renovation could simply involve changing a few door k***s or taps.

Some carefully considered door handles can help change the style and theme of a room, especially when paired with a few other touches, such as key decor items and your new window shades.

Go from early-noughties daggy to something classic and timeless with just a few adjustments!

4) Create new light

"Having more than one type of light source in a house can make so much difference to how the house is experienced at night time"

If you're not keen on redoing the lights in your ceiling, consider if you can add floor or table lamps to create mood lighting at night and decorate your space during the day.

5) Find a statement piece

You don't need to throw out your entire living room or bedroom suite – you may just need to add a chair!

"Occasional chairs are a designer's secret weapon in large master bedrooms" "Clients are often at a loss as to how to fill oversized master bedrooms to make them feel complete, but a simple chair styled-well can solve this problem anytime."

Create a little 'nook' with your chair by adding a small side table and artwork to tie it all in. Just add a pile of your favourite books atop the table and you have the perfect reading vignette.

6) Decorate your walls with art

Finally, move the eye around the room with features at different height levels. This might mean hanging some wall art.

Australia’s housing market recorded outstanding capital growth over 2021, with the estimated value of residential real estate now $9.4 trillion; a new record high.

In the 12 months to 30 November, property values surged by 22.2% nationally, the largest annual increase since 1989. The synchronised upswing saw almost every capital city and rest of state region reach record high values, with the exceptions of WA and NT.

Today, CoreLogic released their annual Best of the Best report; the most comprehensive overview of top-performing residential markets. So which suburbs were the country’s top performers? And what’s on the horizon for 2022? Find out exclusively in our Best of the Best 2021 report.

REIWA and its agents are once again proud to be throwing support behind The Salvation Army’s Annual Christmas Appeal and are urging all West Australians to donate to this worthy cause.

The festive season is meant to be a joyous time, however for some families, it can be extremely difficult with all the added pressures the cost of Christmas brings.

REIWA CEO Neville Pozzi said with more than 14,000 West Aussies expected to turn to the Salvos for assistance, this holiday season was a better time than any to dig deep and help those who need it most.

“It’s been a challenging two years to say the least, which is why we are strongly encouraging all West Australians to get behind the great work the Salvos do on a daily basis to help those who are most vulnerable in our community,” Mr Pozzi said.

The Salvation Army Public Relations Secretary Warren Palmer said this year, the Salvos anticipate the needs of West Aussies at Christmas will reach a new peak under the pressure of the pandemic.

“Increased isolation, financial stress and mental health impacts of COVID-19 this year will continue to exacerbate other pre-existing issues. The Salvos want to leave no one in need this Christmas, and we need the generosity of the community to once again partner with us in support of locals doing it really tough.

“Christmas offers us a time to reflect and connect with one another and celebrate the joy of community. This connection will be more important than ever this year, so we encourage us all to look out for each other, check in on family and embrace the true meaning of Christmas,” Mr Palmer said.

How to donate
Mr Pozzi said the Christmas Appeal will be accepting physical donations this year after going online in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but online donations are always welcome.

“From 15 November to 13 December, I encourage you to visit one of the 43 real estate agency collection points across Perth, and regionally, to donate unwrapped gifts or non-perishable food items, and meet the REIWA agents who are committed to bringing Christmas joy to those in need.

“As we have seen in the eight years of partnering with the Salvos’ for this initiative, a little generosity can go a long way in bringing joy to these families at Christmas time,” Mr Pozzi said.
