It is also a time to reflect on the progress that has been made towards gender equality and to acknowledge work that still needs to be done.

Meet the Team! Introducing.. Michaela Speering our Head of Estate Planning.

Michaela began her career in generalist law firm gaining experience in family law, criminal law and civil litigation. Since joining Culshaw Miller in 2010, Michaela has focused her practice in the areas of Wills, estates, and guardianship law.

Michaela obtained her Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) from Murdoch University. She is a full member of the Society of Trusts and Estates Partitioners (STEP) and has been a committee member of the WA Law Society’s Elder Law and Succession Committee since 2016.

Michaela is passionate about helping people to understand the importance of planning for the future and assisting clients to put in place a valid Will, valid enduring powers of attorney, enduring powers of guardianship and advance health directives.

Michaela’s practice also includes acting for Executors and Administrators of deceased estates, disputed estates and parties to Family Provision Act claims.

Michaela works with private clients and advisors to advise on estate planning and deceased estate administration issues.

Meet our Team!
Ross Mendonca is an Associate Director who practices in the firm’s Wills & Estates team.

Ross has over 10 years of industry experience and has been recognised as a Wills, Estates and Succession Planning Rising Star at a national level.

Ross acts for a variety of clients preparing estate plans including for “mums and dads” and high net worth individuals. Such estate planning includes the preparation of Wills, Enduring Powers of Attorney and Guardianship, and superannuation nominations. Ross also acts on a variety of deceased estate matters and often helps clients with administering estates including to apply for a Grant of Probate/Letters of Administration, identify and call in assets, settle debts and tax obligations and make distributions to beneficiaries.

Introducing... our Head of Family Law, Mary Basta.

Mary leads our family law team and is an Accredited Family Law Specialist. She has worked exclusively in the area of family law for many years, and appears regularly in both the Family Court of Western Australia and the Federal Circuit Court and Family Court of Australia.

Mary studied at Murdoch University, and graduated with a double degree in Law and Commerce. Prior to working at Culshaw Miller Lawyers, Mary was an Associate to the Deputy President of the State Administrative Tribunal.

In addition to being an Accredited Family Law Specialist, Mary is a qualified collaborative lawyer, and has obtained a Master of Applied Law (Family Law) through The College of Law Australia.

Drawing on her knowledge and experience in litigation, mediation and collaboration, Mary is able to evaluate and provide tailored and specific advice on each individual client’s matter. Mary’s clients will attest to her strong representation, empathy, and ability to think outside of the box in order to offer creative solutions to complex and unique situations and to achieve an optimal outcome in their circumstances.
