Seed planting at Tam's Gardens
First I removed last season's plants from the raised beds and then added sheep poo plus blood and bone. I turned the soil a bit and then added a good helping of compost on top (thank you Wonderland chickens, an invaluable resource).
For the pots I used seedling potting mix, I found a shaded area of the garden to set them up, and here are the results so far:
Snap peas came up in 5 days, strong and healthy.
Silverbeat and English Spinach popped up a couple of days later.
Basil and red onions started sprouting at 9 days.
Curly leaf parsley plus coriander just starting to come up now, about 2 weeks.
As well as that, 2 out of the 3 donated Moringa seeds have sprouted π
No luck with the snapdragons yet. Will keep trying.
Also planted:
One small bed of garlic (already up).
One small bed of red onions.
One small bed of aspargus
One small bed ready for sweet potatoes (currently sprouting in water)
One large bed planted with tomatoes and cumbers around the edge to utilise the climbing frame, with a sea of beetroot down the middle, and coriander seed in the empty spots.
One large bed with eggplant down the middle, and rocket all around the edge.
In my opinion, rocket is better straight into the ground.
Parsley and coriander work about the same either way.
Peas definitely better in pots first, strengthen the roots and then plant once it is cooler.
Still undecided about silverbeet and English spinach.
