Kitchen cabinetry is often one of the largest visual elements in an interior, so getting it right early creates a beautiful foundation for everything else.

Before selecting finishes, I look at the practical details too:

• How each space will function day to day
• Where lighting and power should be positioned
• Which finishes need to withstand busy family life

Where should you spend — and where can you save — during Prestart?

Not every selection needs to be an upgrade.

And a higher price tag doesn’t automatically create a better-designed home.

The goal is to spend intentionally.

I often encourage clients to think about:

Where will we notice the difference every day?

What will be difficult or expensive to change later?

What adds function as well as beauty?

Where can we keep things simple without compromising the overall design?

Sometimes the best decision is investing in beautiful flooring.

Sometimes it’s extra cabinetry.

Sometimes it’s lighting.

And sometimes the standard inclusion works perfectly within the overall design.

Good Prestart planning isn’t about spending more.

It’s about spending better.

Your home should feel connected from one room to the next. 🤍

One of the biggest mistakes I see during Prestart is making selections room by room.

A beautiful kitchen.

A beautiful ensuite.

A beautiful laundry.

But when each space is designed in isolation, the finished home can start to feel disconnected.

A considered interior looks at the whole home first.

Your flooring, cabinetry, stone, tiles, hardware, paint colours and fixtures should speak the same design language — even when each room has its own personality.

That’s why I establish an overall design direction before we start making individual selections.

It creates a home that feels intentional, cohesive and beautifully resolved from the moment you walk through the door.

One area I would never leave until the last minute at Prestart?

Your electrical plan. 💡

It may not be the glamorous part of designing a home, but it has an enormous impact on how your home functions once you live in it.

Think beyond simply choosing light fittings.

Where will furniture sit?

Where will you charge your phone?

Do you need power inside cabinetry?

Where will lamps go?

Will you want bedside pendants?

Do you need additional outlets in your kitchen, pantry, study or alfresco?

What needs to be planned now so you’re not wishing you had added it later?

Good design considers how the home will be lived in, not just how it will photograph.

That practical layer is an important part of my Prestart planning process.

Modern Australian interiors celebrate the beauty of our natural landscape while balancing relaxed living with refined design.

This mood board draws inspiration from the tones and textures found across the Australian environment — sunburnt earth, native foliage, and soft neutral sands. The palette blends warm terracottas, muted greens, natural taupes, and rich earthy browns to create a grounded yet sophisticated atmosphere.
