Given the area’s median house price, coupled with waterside living, it’s easy to see why Aussies are swarming.

🦜City of Moreton Bay is set to welcome around 40,000 migratory shorebirds as they arrive to rest after travelling thousands of kilometres across the globe.

Among them is the incredible Curlew Sandpiper, which makes a 13,000km journey from Siberia every year!

📍You’ll spot these feathered visitors roosting along the Pumicestone Passage but remember, they need peace and quiet to recover.

✅ Keep your distance from roosting and feeding sites
🐕 Keep dogs leashed (unless in a designated off-leash area)
📸 Enjoy them from afar because they lose valuable energy if disturbed

Together, we can make Moreton Bay a safe stopover for our special guests. For more information, visit 👉 https://ow.ly/EoiE50WSU3V

Tropical Cyclone Alfred continues to move slowly towards the southeast Queensland coast. Alfred, a category 2 tropical cyclone, is expected to remain of similar intensity until it crosses the coast late Friday evening or early Saturday, most likely close to Moreton Bay between Noosa and Coolangatta.

Heavy rainfall bands are extending over the coastal areas of southeast Queensland and northeast New South Wales. Heavy to locally intense rainfall which may lead to dangerous and life-threatening flash flooding is expected as Alfred crosses the coast late Friday evening or early Saturday.

Abnormally high tides are likely to continue causing minor flooding of coastal low lying areas between Double Island Point and Grafton, particularly during the Friday night (early Saturday) high tide. The risk of a dangerous storm tide for the exposed beaches between Cape Moreton and Yamba, including the Gold Coast and Byron Bay beaches, is easing this morning after the early high tide.

Gales with damaging wind gusts to 120 kilometres per hour are occurring near the coast between Cape Moreton and Cape Byron. Gales with damaging wind gusts to 120 kilometres per hour are expected to extend along the remaining southeast Queensland and northeastern New South Wales coastal and island communities between Noosa and Ballina during Friday, possibly extending as far south as Grafton and as far north as Double Island Point on Friday evening and early Saturday.

Destructive wind gusts of up to 155 kilometres per hour are likely to develop about coastal and island locations near, and to the south of, the cyclone centre, as Alfred's destructive core approaches the coast during Friday afternoon, and persist until Alfred crosses the coast late Friday evening or early Saturday.

To ensure public space access, amenity and safety for all, Council is repealing its Persons Experiencing Homelessness Camping Framework from Wednesday 12 March 2025.

Council officers will inform campers across City of Moreton Bay of these changes and continue to refer people to the State Government for assistance.

This aligns City of Moreton Bay’s Camping on Public Land regulations with neighbouring South East Queensland councils.

To find out more about the changes please read more here: https://ow.ly/zaGg50V6FlR
