Amazing to talk a look down memory lane 🚆
On 8 October 1955, the first electric train came to Penrith.
The train left Central Station and arrived in Penrith at 10:30am, after first stopping for celebration in St Marys.
The Premier, J. J. Cahill, and the Minister for Transport, E. Wetherill, were part of the official party. The occasion was marked by huge celebrations in Penrith, including a procession down High Street featuring floats, brass bands and marching bands. The procession ended at the showground, where sports and a gymkhana were held in the evening.
