🚧 PENRITH & BLACKTOWN BACK CASTLEREAGH MOTORWAY 🚧

Penrith City Council and Blacktown City Council have officially called for full funding of the Castlereagh Motorway – a long-awaited flood evacuation route and transport link between the M7/Richmond Road at Marsden Park and The Crossroads at The Northern Road, Londonderry/Cranebrook.

In their recently endorsed Advocacy Strategy 2025:

β€œPenrith Council calls on the NSW Government to increase safety for the region and unlock the Penrith City Centre by committing to deliver the Castlereagh Connection as a solution to regional flood evacuation.”

βœ… Stage One Priority: From the M7/Richmond Road intersection through Berkshire Park/Llandilo and ending at The Crossroads at Londonderry to improve resident safety and support future economic growth.

βœ… A critical flood evacuation route for Richmond, Bligh Park, Londonderry, Jordan Springs, Castlereagh, Cranebrook, Berkshire Park, Llandilo & surrounds.

βœ… A new motorway connection from Penrith & the The Hawkesbury straight to the M7 and the wider Sydney network.

βœ… The Federal Government has already allocated business case funding – but it must be matched by the NSW Government.

Penrith Mayor Todd Carney stressed the urgency:

β€œWithout additional flood evacuation capacity, the economic potential of Penrith City Centre is constrained. In a 1 in 100-year flood, the Castlereagh Connection would divert up to 24,000 vehicles – in particular many of the 37,000 residents of the highly flood-prone Hawkesbury area. It would reduce the population exposed to major flood risk by a staggering 71%.”

The General Manager of Blacktown City Council reinforced this call:

β€œWe join with Penrith City Council, in calling on the State and Commonwealth to fund the Castlereagh Connection. This link is vital for flood evacuation capacity and as an economic enabler for the communities north of Mount Druitt, St Marys and Penrith.”

This project has been talked about for decades, but now with Penrith and Blacktown Councils placing it at the centre of their Advocacy Priorities, the Castlereagh Motorway seems firmly back on the agenda.
