🌊 Foam at Lake Fellmongery – Nothing to Worry About
You may notice foam appearing around Lake Fellmongery from time to time and wonder if it’s linked to the algal bloom currently affecting parts of South Australia.
The good news: it’s not.
The foam seen at Lake Fellmongery is naturally occurring. It forms when organic material in the lake breaks down, releasing a natural, soap-like substance. Wind and waves then whip this material into foam, which can drift across the lake’s surface and sometimes onto the nearby road. It’s something we see regularly in the lake and it’s not harmful or related to the algal bloom that’s impacted other parts of the region.
💙 Our thoughts are with our neighbouring communities who are managing the effects of the algal bloom — it’s a tough time for many coastal towns, tourism operators and the fishing industry.
☀️ For now, Robe remains fortunate to be unaffected. Our beaches are clean, safe and ready for summer, but we’ll provide updates if anything changes.
