When I started Relok8, I assumed we’d pack a home and that would be it - job done!
It’s actually nothing like that.
We’ve now packed one woman five times. Single, into her marital home. Then kids, into a bigger home. Then life changed, and she moved to a smaller home with her children. And now, onto her next new adventure.
We’ve loved helping her move and settled into each one.
Turns out it was never one job. It’s every stage, and we’re lucky to be in it. Good catch — this post isn’t a rightsizing move, so that tag doesn’t fit. Updated list:

We get asked a lot if we have a set price for a move. Honestly, we don't, not really. We have an hourly rate, but what we actually do is build a package around each client. A rightsizing move and a four bedroom family home full of kids and animals are completely different jobs, so we don't force them into the same box. Tell us what's going on and we'll shape the help around that.

Thirty years in one house, and it was the front door that made the final call.
We helped a lovely couple move into a retirement living community recently. Their home was full, beautiful sentimental items, big chunky furniture, gifts and school made art from their children and grandchildren.
They really wanted to take their much loved lounge with them, but no amount of shuffling was getting it through that front door. It’s much better to know that before the move rather than when the movers are trying to get it through the door.
People assume that's the heartbreaking bit. The letting go ,but it usually isn't.
Some pieces of furniture went to auction. Some went to grandchildren setting up their first homes, which I love. And the couple chose some of the sentimental things that were coming with them. Were they sad? Of course. But they'd made their peace with it, because they were taking every single memory with them anyway.
Memories never live in the furniture.
They called the new place a fresh start. They were right.

Running business in my 50s

We pack houses for a living. But a box of old photos has a way of reminding you it was never just a house.

It’s easy to forget that on a normal day. We’re wrapping glasses, taping boxes, ticking off rooms. Boxes and belongings, going from one place to another.

Then we find a box of photos at the back of a cupboard — full of birthdays, school days, pets who aren’t around anymore.

An outfit you’re glad stayed in the 90s.

We hand them over and understand. That’s when the boxes stop mattering and the memories inside them do.

A great move team makes sure all the parts of your move come together like a jigsaw.

Truck day can look chaotic from the footpath. From inside, it’s choreography.

A great removalist is not guessing where things go — they’re already picturing the truck like a jigsaw, working out what fits where before they’ve even picked up the first box.

And when we’ve done the packing, that puzzle gets a lot easier. Everything’s in standard-sized boxes, labelled and packed properly. Boxes stack clean, gaps disappear, and the truck fills faster.

Less time mucking about trying to make things fit = less cost to you.

Rightsizing, not downsizing. We say it a lot because it matters.
Downsizing sounds like giving something up. Rightsizing is choosing a home that actually fits your life right now — less garden, less stairs, less stuff you’re keeping “just in case.” More time. More ease living in your home. More Saturdays that are actually yours.
