Renting in Western Sydney? You need to know these new laws. 🛑

The NSW Government has officially enacted some of the biggest overhauls to the Residential Tenancies Act in a generation. If you are currently renting or looking for a new home, these updates significantly tip the scales back in your favour.

Here is the exact breakdown of your updated legal rights:
1) The 12-Month Rent Cap: No matter what type of lease agreement you are on, your rent can only be increased once every 12 months.
2) The End of 'No-Grounds' Evictions: Landlords can no longer ask you to leave at the end of your lease without a valid, legally documented reason (like selling the property or moving back in). They must provide verified evidence, and notice periods are locked in at 60 to 90 days.
3) Fee-Free Rent Payments: You can no longer be forced into using third-party apps that charge hidden transaction fees. Agencies must provide at least one direct, fee-free electronic payment method.
