Kambarang is coming in, the Noongar season of birth, and the forest is already showing it. Yellow everywhere. Wattle, banksia and the amazing orchids are still going down at ground level. 🌺

We acknowledge the Wadandi people as Traditional Custodians of this Country, and the six seasons that have read this land far longer than any calendar of ours. If you would like to learn it properly, the Margaret River Region site has a good guide to the six seasons of Wadandi Boodja. 🌳

Peak week on the forest floor. Silky Blue orchids in the dappled patches, Cowslips orchids wherever the light gets through. We walked this same track on Sunday and half of it was not out yet. 🌺

Sam left for a ten minute walk this morning and came back an hour later.

Wildflower season never disappoints 🌳

Open Studios runs through to next Sunday. We have both chalets open from this Sunday the 20th through to Friday the 25th. 🌳

Follow the art trail all day, then come back and run a bath while the wrens sort themselves out before dark.

Two Red-Tailed Black Cockatoos, and you would barely know they were the same bird. 🖤

The male wears solid black with deep red tail panels. The female is dusted with yellow spots and fine barring, her tail a softer orange. Once you know, you cannot unsee it. ❤️

Both call this forest home.

Most mornings start the same way here. Sasha and Buddy leading us down whichever track they've decided is today's track. 🐶 Sam stops for fungi or wildflower photos, Lee pretends to be patient about it and the dogs don't care either way because a walk is a walk.

The forest is starting to stir and morning rounds are turning into treasure hunts. First blossom, first orchid leaf, first properly warm patch of sun. This is our favourite time of the year. 🌳

If you hear a loud, wailing call above the canopy this month, look up. Carnaby's & Black Cockatoos travel towards the coast in the cooler months, and our forest sits right on their flight path. 🌳

They're endangered, found nowhere on Earth but the south west of WA, and easy to pick by their white cheek patches and white tail panels. When a flock moves through the Jarrah, the whole forest knows about it. 🥰

Djilba has arrived. In the Noongar calendar this is first spring, a season of cold mornings, warming days and the first flush of yellow through the forest. 🌺 The wattles are opening, the birds are pairing off, and every walk down our tracks turns up something that wasn't there the week before.

We acknowledge the Wadandi people as the Traditional Custodians of the Country we call home, and pay our respects to Elders past and present. 🌳

Look who wandered past this morning. 🌳

An Emu, picking its way through the trees like it owned the place. Which, fair enough, out here it probably does. 🥰 One of those moments you stop everything for.
