An evening at Parliament celebrating some of the incredible women helping shape South Australia’s construction industry.

On Tuesday evening, Litsa joined the 2026 Master Builders SA HiViZ Women in Construction Award winners and finalists at Old Parliament House for a special event hosted by Minister for Women, The Hon Katrine Hildyard MP.

As a member of the HiViZ committee, Litsa has been fortunate to play a part in recognising and supporting women across the industry, making it particularly special to come together and celebrate this year’s outstanding group.

The evening also included a tour of the House of Assembly and a discussion about South Australia’s history of women’s suffrage, a fitting backdrop for an event recognising the achievements of women continuing to make their mark today.

Congratulations again to all of this year’s winners and finalists. It was a fantastic evening celebrating your achievements and the contribution you continue to make to our industry.

What We Found Wednesday 🔍

After an unseasonably wet winter in Adelaide, this is something our inspectors are keeping a particularly close eye on.

During a recent stage inspection, our team identified mould developing on timber that had been exposed to the elements during construction.

While framing will inevitably encounter some weather, prolonged exposure to wet conditions can create an environment where mould can develop. In this case, the mould will need to be appropriately treated before the build progresses.

From a pest perspective, moisture matters too. Damp conditions and moisture-affected timber can create a more conducive environment for timber pests, including termites, making good moisture management an important part of long-term property protection.

It’s exactly why identifying these issues during construction matters, before they’re concealed by the next stage of the build.

Today we celebrate dads, grandfathers, stepdads, carers, mentors and all the people who step into a fatherly role in someone’s life. This is a key role in keeping our days running smoothly, coordinating bookings and schedules, supporting our inspectors and technicians in the field, and providing friendly, professional service to our customers from their first enquiry onwards.

We’re looking for someone who communicates confidently, has strong attention to detail and can stay organised when there are plenty of moving parts. Previous experience in administration, scheduling or customer service is preferred, with experience in property services, trades, inspections or a similar environment highly regarded.

In return, you’ll join a supportive, established team with plenty of variety in your day, ongoing training and opportunities to develop within the business.

What We Found Wednesday 🔍

Sometimes finding the problem is only the first step.

Bird activity had resulted in a significant build-up of nesting material and debris in this difficult-to-access roof area, requiring more than a simple clean-up.

Our team cleared the accumulated material before installing bird exclusion netting to help prevent birds from accessing and nesting in the area again.

It’s a great example of how the expertise across House Inspect Australia and Pest Protect Australia can work together, identifying what’s happening around a property and putting practical measures in place to help protect it moving forward.

Last week, our inspector Michael was out in West Lakes completing inspections and enjoying a particularly scenic day on the road.

It’s one of the things we enjoy most about working across House Inspect Australia and Pest Protect Australia. From coastal suburbs to the Adelaide Hills, the city and regional South Australia, every day takes our inspectors somewhere different.

Last week, Barney and Litsa attended the Master Builders SA Building Excellence Awards, celebrating the outstanding people, projects and businesses shaping South Australia’s building industry.

One of the highlights was seeing so many of the builders and industry professionals we work alongside recognised for the quality of their work. There’s something incredibly rewarding about watching our clients succeed and knowing that independent inspections and strong industry partnerships can play a part in supporting the standards they work so hard to achieve.

This year’s awards were particularly meaningful, with Litsa having the privilege of joining the judging panel. After seeing the calibre of work firsthand throughout the judging process, it was fantastic to see that quality recognised on the night.

Congratulations to all of this year’s winners and finalists. It’s a privilege to work within an industry that continues to set the bar high and alongside so many of the people helping to raise it.

Not a bad way to start a Monday.

This morning we had inspectors from both House Inspect Australia and Pest Protect Australia team up for an inspection to give our client the complete picture of their property.

Working across House and Pest means being part of a team that shares knowledge, supports one another and takes pride in delivering a consistently high standard for our clients. As for the moustaches, whilst not part of the official uniform, they are encouraged.

Creating more opportunities for women in construction takes more than celebrating success. It means having the conversations that help create lasting change.

Recently, Litsa joined Ryan from Metricon Homes to host a Master Builders SA HiViZ panel featuring some of this year’s Women in Construction Award winners, who are now finalists in the upcoming Building Excellence Awards.

As fellow members of the HiViZ committee, Litsa and Ryan led a great discussion around attracting more women to construction, creating workplaces that encourage them to stay, and learning from the experiences of women already building successful careers across the industry.

For House Inspect Australia and Pest Protect Australia, being actively involved in conversations like these is an important part of contributing to the future of the industries we work in every day.
