"A walk out on Rye pier always offers up a different experience on each occasion You could see dolphins on one day and stingrays the next. Underneath the scuba divers love it and refer to it as The Octopus' Garden. Around mid June hundreds of thousands of spider crabs arrive and cover the seabed. They can easily be seen as the water is crystal clear. There are usually people fishing there and almost always catching squid. On the horizon you can make out the taller buildings of the Melbourne skyline. The pier is also the focal point for the magnificent Australian Day fireworks display. All in all it is a magical place"
