Another week, and another record number of cattle sold through the Scone Scone Regional Livestock Selling Centre. Producers making the choice to sell in a strong market rather than feed or agist- No doubt this will be putting a large dent in the state herd numbers....

Numbers lifted at Scone, setting a new yarding record and attracting strong interest from interstate restockers. Well-presented weaners led the market, with steers holding firm to dearer trends while heifers were softer in places. Limited yearlings saw mixed results, and cow prices eased slightly as supply conditions continue to shift.

As a director of the Scone Race Club it is with a certain amount of excitment and relief to have been a part of the official opening of the new synthetic race track and 100 box stable barn. Just in time with The Scone Cup just around the corner!

Numbers eased back after the Easter break, but the market showed plenty of strength across most categories. Light steer calves heading back to the paddock were noticeably dearer, while medium weights also sold to strong demand. Feeder steers lifted, and a quality offering of British bred yearling heifers saw solid competition from lot feeders, pushing prices higher. Heifer calves held fairly steady overall. Cows bounced back well, with improvements across all grades, and heavy bulls topped the sale on a strong note.
