A great session with construction advisor and waterproofing consultant Stan Giaouris this week 👏

The Astute team came together for a workshop focused on waterproofing best practice, detailing, compliance and long-term building performance.

Whether it’s basements and balconies or wet areas and rooftops, these conversations are an important part of delivering quality projects and getting the details right early.

Today we’re spotlighting our Chiswick Site Engineer, Michael Abounader 👷‍♂️

Michael works alongside the Site Manager each day, helping keep everything on track across site.

From ITP inspections and organising deliveries to scheduling trades and opening and closing the site daily, he’s right in the middle of the action.

Strong coordination on site doesn’t happen by accident. It’s people like Michael who keep the momentum going.

The crane has officially been dismantled at Chiswick 🏗️

It might look simple, but dismantling a tower crane is a seriously complex operation. Careful planning, tight coordination, and a big focus on safety and precision at every step.

Huge effort from Borger Cranes and Active Crane Hire to help us get this done right 👏

A big milestone for the project and a clear sign we’re getting very close now. Just landscaping the finishing touches to go! Stay tuned for more updates soon!

Some sites don’t give you room for error. Cross St, Double Bay is one of them.

Right now, excavation is happening with a 20-ton excavator sitting on a steel platform, which means every load needs to be carefully managed and distributed through the structure below.

At the same time, the team is juggling:

✔️ Complex bracing to protect surrounding buildings
✔️ Managing point loads vs structural capacity
✔️ Ongoing dewatering to keep the site stable 💧
✔️ Traffic and pedestrian coordination in a busy area 🚚

A lot happening at once, all needing to work together.

Over 1,000m³ of concrete. One hydrostatic slab. A whole lot of preparation. ⁣

The slab is engineered to resist groundwater pressure from below, so before any concrete was poured, the site was dewatered to create a stable base. Then came the checks: stormwater alignment, waterproofing, and structural engineer sign-off.

The pour is the milestone. The prep is what makes it possible. 💪
