A piece of Noosa's history... T.M.Burke, the original developer of Sunrise Beach, concentrated its development efforts on the west side of David Low Way and Peregian Beach. It wasn’t until 1970 that the company turned its attention to the ocean front land on the east side of David Low Way. An early development was the Shingle Chalet, located on Tingira Crescent, first opening in the 1970s. It was the only restaurant south of Noosa Heads and was supported largely by clientele from the nearby caravan park. In the 1980s the building became Jammy’s Restaurant before the site was redeveloped. Today, it is now a unit development and popular coffee shop for Sunrise Beach locals, Chalet & Co.

A piece of Noosa's history... First established in the 1880s by John and Eliza Donovan, the Royal Mail Hotel became a bustling stopover for travellers along regional coach and postal routes. The name “Royal Mail” reflected its role in an era when such inns connected communities through transport and communication. Managed by their son Lionel, the hotel was expanded in the early 1930s before a devastating 1939 fire destroyed the building. Rebuilt in the 1940s, it remains a proud symbol of Tewantin’s resilience and enduring heritage.

A piece of Noosa's history... Built in 1927 by the Massoud family, the timber jetty on Gympie Terrace became a hub for fishing, ferry services and riverside life along the Noosa River. The family’s boat, River Light, ferried passengers and schoolchildren, while fishing nets dried in the sun beside their bustling cafe - a local landmark that would, decades later, become Maisie’s Restaurant. By the 1970s, the boats and nets at Massoud’s Jetty stood as reminders of Noosaville’s working riverfront heritage, bridging its early fishing days with the emerging leisure culture that defines it today.
