🏠 FAQ: Can seniors live in SDA?

This is a common question, and the answer is yes, in the right circumstances.

Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) under the NDIS is designed for people with extreme functional impairment or very high support needs, and this can include older Australians if they are under 65 at the time of entering the NDIS.

Key things to understand:
🟠Eligibility is based on support needs and functional impairment, not age alone
🟠Participants must be NDIS-approved with SDA funding in their plan
🟠SDA is typically used when someone needs to move from aged care or unsuitable housing into a more appropriate environment

These homes are purpose-built to support independence, accessibility, and quality of life.

It’s also important to note:
🟠People already in SDA can generally remain after turning 65
🟠Those over 65 who are not eligible for NDIS will usually need to explore aged care pathways instead

At Apollo SDA, we always focus on suitability:
🏠Is SDA the right solution for this person?
🏠Does the design meet their current and future needs?
🏠Are the right supports in place to maximise independence?

Every journey is different, and getting the right advice early (from an OT or Support Coordinator) is key.
